Public Participation
Participate by
"helping us plan"
Are you concerned about the quality of the water in your local river or lake? If yes
and you live in the Shannon region (click here to open a map of the district)
then
there is now a way for you to participate and help us plan to improve the
water quality in your area. The draft River Basin Management Plan for the
Shannon IRBD, called "Water Matters - Help us plan" has been published jointly
by all the local authorities along the River Shannon and the Department of
Environment, Northern Ireland, and sets out the measures necessary to maintain
or improve the water quality in the region in an easy-to-read manner. For
too long it has been somebody else's responsibility but now this is an
opportunity for you to get involved and help plan the future management of water
in the region. [Click here to download (PDF -

Public involvement is one of the core principles of the Water Framework Directive.
Irish legislation (Water Policy Regulations) requires the establishment
by the local
authorities in the Shannon International River Basin District of a River
Basin District Advisory Council (RBDAC) as a permanent forum for direct
dialogue and interaction between interested parties and the relevant public
authorities.
You can participate whether you are involved in industry, agriculture,
angling, or as a citizen using water every day by contacting your local
Advisory Council member.
